Transforming a Small Town Garden
Location
Central Cheltenham
The brief
A brief that started as ‘a bit of tidying up and replacement of a few container plants’ quickly grew into a major transformation of a quiet Cheltenham garden. A major element of the makeover was the increased focus placed on several specimen plants and the client’s collection of ‘Henry Moore’ style sculptures.
Project execution
The transformation began by repainting the garden’s closeboard fencing – which immediately provided a light background against which the garden’s plants and ornaments could be displayed more effectively.
Next came the laying of light natural sandstone paving, set off by random mosaic detailing with small insets of the same material. With the new light background and diagonally laid random paving, the garden was ready for some new topsoil, the replanted pots and the careful placement of the client’s garden ornaments – giving a new lease of life to what had previously been a lacklustre and uninviting space.
And then, as a final finishing touch to help the client enjoy the newly relaxing ambiance of the garden, it was logical to create a simple trellis screen to hide a wheelie bin.
